A long-time friend came to me one day and said he needed help with some graphics. He just blurted out that he wanted me to create a visual identity for the first ever Brno Pride Week. And he needed it ASAP, because the event was in, like... two weeks.
Like, WTF? What did you expect, a miracle?
So we started brainstorming, and he goes, “Just take a crocodile and make it drag.” What?! Okay, sure. Here’s a crocodile. “See? Now give it a rainbow shirt, lashes — boom! There’s our mascot.”
He said, “You’ll figure out the rest, it’s gonna be amazing. Do your magic.” Wow, okay.
I grabbed some characters from Canva, pulled out a rainbow palette, made a circular logo with the crocodile and the text Brno Pride Week around it. Poster — big date, big logo, hashtags, done. Here’s the program, here are the Instagram stories — go.
We pulled off Brno Pride Week with just eight people. It was supposed to be a weekend event — and we made it a whole week. Each of us brought our own experience from different festivals, everyone used their expertise, and together we worked like a tiny startup — everyone doing everything.
And we nailed it. It had structure, energy, attention to detail. People came, it made an impact, it had heart.
There was an exhibition opening, picnic, panel discussions, film screenings, a podcast, a church service, a Prague Pride live stream, and even a queer city walk.
We started something beautiful. And I gave it a face.
